Why our clothes match sometimes

Firstly it took 1,438 attempts to get this photo... I've got one where the youngest looks like he's surely possessed by the devil himself. The rest either someone isn't looking at the camera, or their head is cropped out or they look incredibly miserable with the experience... Don't blame them!

Looking at this you've hopefully noticed we're all wearing matching clothes. There's several reasons for this, the main one being my husband. He's enjoyed getting me and my eldest matching clothes for years now, that is mostly because he finds it hilarious that I fit into children's clothes (it's actually very convenient as they are usually a lot cheaper).

When we had our second and she turned out to be another girl he started buying them more marching things. Part of me was very against this as there were more than enough clothes for the second born to wear. But having siblings of the same gender and close in age pretty much guarantees endless fights about who gets what, especially when little sister wants to be like big sis. I'll, however, admit to finding it a little weird when people dress their kids in matching clothes. I remember asking my husband why he was so keen on the idea and he told me he thinks it's good for them to identify with their own "team". Which I have to say I've bought into, it makes it so much easier for them to find eachother in a crowd and likewise for us to find them!

This photo is taken after a day out at a soft play with the amazing DSA's - Dwarf Sports Association - Scottish group, one of the many events they plan throughout the year which allows kids, adults and families touched by dwarfism to get together. I'm doing a sponsored walk in a few weeks and any further donations are still gladly accepted CLICK HERE. There's more information over on my sponsorship page. All of us having the same "uniform" seriously helped in such a big and noisy place. It made it easier for me to locate the kids and them to find me - Husband didn't join in with the stripes because we're not THAT weird. Two weeks ago we were at our local Highland gathering and the girls wore matching outfits, again it thoroughly helped when locating them on the busy fairground field.

I like his idea because our family is our team and I hope the kids will always identify as part of our team even when they are too old or cool to want to be seen with us, I hope this is the basis of extra bonding if that makes sense. But even if it's not it is genuinely helpful in crowds and I'm totally converted to it after years of trying to resist it. So before you judge us or others for being weirdos, they probably had a similar idea and love their family team!

Why all the butterflies?

I feel like the blog deserves a wee post explaining the reason for it's name and our family's general obsession with butterflies. I blame it all on our firstborn as we weren't always so crazy about them (don't get me wrong, we've always loved them, but the kids have taken it to a whole other level!). While expecting our first my husband and I struggled with finding a name for our daughter that we could both agree on. It seemed like we never felt love for any of the names the other would suggest, there were names we hated, names we felt lukewarm about and names that we both did quite like but they just weren't "the one". When we had broken our pregnancy news a few months previous to a close family friend her first comment had been a cheeky remark about what a nice name she had. We had all just laughed it off though and not thought anything more of it. Fast forward back to our name discussions that were getting nowhere fast despite having known the...

Succulent Carrot Cake

The last few days I've been craving a slice of carrot cake because it's one of my favourite cakes. I used to hate it as a child, I think mostly because it had a vegetable in it to be perfectly honest. However, I have also tasted some pretty awful carrot cakes, often they're dry and sometimes full of nuts and dried fruit. Now I love nuts, but not a fan of them in cakes; I am however not keen on raisins or any other dried fruits so any cake with them puts me off. I turned to the internet to find inspiration for my homemade carrot cake. I took ideas from several different recipes, partially restricted by what ingredients I had at home as I had no intentions of going to the shop today. Pretty pleased with what I came up with as is the rest of the family!  Ingredients Cake batter 3 eggs 200 ml white sugar 100 ml brown sugar (if I hadn't had any in I would've used white instead for all of it but saw it recommended for more moist...

Toddler tantrum: Poo-gate

Some toddler tantrums are so bad I'd rather shoot myself in the foot than deal with them, but a lot of them are just laughable. To be fair they get worse as they get older so I will no doubt not find my son's outbursts as funny in a year's time. But right now his tantrums are delightful, especially compared to his older sisters' ones. This photo is from the other day when I shut a door and the world ended but it's not the reason for the post. This photo was just preferable to a photo of smudged shite, as today we had a "poo-gate" moment. I say "a" because we've had numerous with each child by now. I was dropping off the dirty dishes in the kitchen and had left the toddler (sans nappy as they were all just about to get into the bath) with the older two in front of the TV when I heard my eldest yelp. "MAMMA!!! Come quick! Elis is HOLDING POOOOO!!" I ran in, and he was indeed holding poop. To be fair it was nowher...
