Buzzing hearing aids - mini appointment


Very brief audiology appointment this morning as one of his hearing aids has been buzzing a bit. I thought it might be the tubes needing changed or possibly the moulds as they have started to not always sit great. Tubes got changed in any case and we have an appointment in 4 weeks to do a full hearing test and recalibrate his hearing aids for the first time since he got them in March (we'll also cast new moulds just to make sure they sit right as it may be a while till we get seen again). 

I had a call from an ENT surgeon (ear/nose/throat) last week as well. His most recent sleep study had been much better than the one we did last January which had been very concerning, but he was also super sick at the time. Problem is he just seems to have a permanent cold, sometimes it's light other time bad - I mean we're grateful we've avoided worse infections so far this year but it's still exhausting for him. Anyway the latest sleep study still shows some abnormalities and I'm sure he pauses his breathing for a second or two sometimes when he sleeps which is an indicator of sleep apnoea (very common in kids with achondroplasia). I enquired if we'd need to do a hospital sleep study but in his opinion he sees easier results to read at home as the child is more relaxed and likely to sleep well. 

The surgeon didn't feel the more recent results were worrying enough for any immediate intervention but he wants to know how Elis' glue ear is getting on as if it's worsened and grommets come up for discussion again he'd prefer to consider taking his adenoids out at the same time. He obviously needs to see Elis in person too but we both agreed it was better to have an up to date hearing test done before to aid us in our decisions going forward. Then we'll see if both procedures are needed or just one or neither.

I feel like the blog deserves a wee post explaining the reason for it's name and our family's general obsession with butterflies. Succulent Carrot Cake

The last few days I've been craving a slice of carrot cake because it's one of my favourite cakes. I used to hate it as a child, I think mostly because it had a vegetable in it to be perfectly honest. However, I have also tasted some pretty awful carrot cakes, often they're dry and sometimes full of nuts and dried fruit. Now I love nuts, but not a fan of them in cakes; I am however not keen on raisins or any other dried fruits so any cake with them puts me off. I turned to the internet to find inspiration for my homemade carrot cake. I took ideas from several different recipes, partially restricted by what ingredients I had at home as I had no intentions of going to the shop today. Toddler tantrum: Poo-gate

Some toddler tantrums are so bad I'd rather shoot myself in the foot than deal with them, but a lot of them are just laughable. To be fair they get worse as they get older so I will no doubt not find my son's outbursts as funny in a year's time. But right now his tantrums are delightful, especially compared to his older sisters' ones. This photo is from the other day when I shut a door and the world ended but it's not the reason for the post. This photo was just preferable to a photo of smudged shite, as today we had a "poo-gate" moment. I say "a" because we've had numerous with each child by now.
